Forest manager
Financial contributions for forest managers
Project description
Sustainable forest management is cost-intensive, especially in difficult locations. However, it is necessary in order to sustainably ensure the climate performance of our forests and to secure the renewable raw material timber in the long term for structural use in accordance with the 3S approach (sequestration in the forest, substitution of concrete and steel and storage in timber construction).
In the project “Carbon Removal Credits for Timber Buildings”, forest services that contribute to increasing the forest’s climate potential, carbon uptake capacity, and ecosystem services are to be compensated. As in the roundwood trade, the unit of measurement and compensation is the cubic meter of saw-grade log wood (categories A to C) at the log yard. The manager’s forest services are defined locally as required and the interfaces with existing carbon or climate projects are clarified.
The financing contributions from the carbon removal credits support the following objectives:
- Increasing carbon capture capacity and reducing the risk of carbon release
- Sustainably securing and increasing the stem timber harvest for material use
- Ensuring forest climate resilience
- Development and compensation of the forest ecosystem service
- Prioritized material use of wood logs
Procedure
Project input:
Once the project has been accepted, a project plan is drawn up together with the project partner. Potential forest climate project for the specific district and forestry requirements. Existing forest projects are also examined by the district to determine whether they can be integrated into the Timber Finance concept.
Project implementation and monitoring:
The agreed management measures are implemented continuously over the defined project period and reported on annually. Thecarbon offset (subject to the recognition of the international carbon methodology expected in Q1 2026) is not applied to standing timber but to piles.
