Stefan has founded and accompanied several long-term projects and companies, including the Raurica Group, the Holzkraftwerk I in Basel and Fagus Suisse. His involvement centers around generating ecological, financial and economic added value for the Swiss timber industry.

Currently, investor efforts are focused on reducing CO2 through projects related to reforestation and forest conservation. However, this is only the beginning of a whole value chain of CO2-friendly investment opportunities. Through the sustainable management of forests, we can generate harvests that feed into the circular wood economy. By harvesting wood and using these materials in construction, we can efficiently replace CO2-intensive materials. More importantly, timber construction creates a way to store CO2 cost-effectively over the long term while improving the overall health of our forests and enhancing their ability to store CO2. Sustainable timber construction means preserving our forests and storing the excess wood in our buildings each year for the long term. In this way, we retain our forest’s CO2 storage capacity and create a second “built forest” that greatly expands the planet’s total CO2 storage capacity. Through our deep understanding of the timber industry and our financial expertise, we enable companies in the timber industry to access capital markets. We combine the worlds of finance and timber to create a marketplace for sustainable carbon sinks in the built environment, with the goal of directing investment to a carbon neutral industry.
