Behind every building are people and companies with visions and innovative products and approaches. More and more of them are united in our association and growing network. Join us and benefit from the advantages.
As part of our series of short portraits of our members, we spoke to Rainer Strauch, Managing Director of CREE Buildings.
Member portrait 2: Rainer Strauch from CREE Buildings
We asked Mr. Strauch six questions and learned a lot about him, his vision and his projects.
1 Mr. Strauch, what prompted you to get involved in sustainable construction?
Sustainable building means building in the interests of future generations, not at their expense! So those of us responsible for construction must put an end to CO2 and pollutant emissions as well as energy and resource consumption of up to 40% worldwide, which the conventional construction industry continues to cause.
2 How does the CREE approach differ from other approaches?
CREE is a construction system, methodology and global network all in one. The construction system serves as “hardware”, the methodology as “software” and the network as a guarantee for constant quality and efficiency. CREE is available internationally with a uniform standard, adapted to local value chains. No other company in the construction industry currently achieves this.
3. where do you see the construction industry in 10 years’ time? What is your recommendation to institutional clients?
Institutional clients should pursue the goal of integrating systematized and sustainable construction with a uniform standard into their entire portfolio. CREE offers best-practice solutions in all common asset classes such as hotel, residential, education, administration, office and healthcare. These “product solutions” for sustainable construction will dominate the market in 10 years’ time.
4 What role do digitalization and technology play in your projects?
Digitalization and technology primarily help us to map construction projects transparently and automate recurring processes. The CREE platform is a know-how library, digital toolbox and international expert forum all in one.
5. can you give an example of a project that was particularly sustainable and perfectly reflects your philosophy?
Several CREE projects are sustainability-certified. A more recent project worth highlighting is the EDGE Südkreuz in Berlin, which has received the highest DGNB and WELL certification and was developed in an international cooperation.
6. what are the biggest challenges you face in the construction industry?
The biggest challenge is sticking to the status quo and outdated ways of thinking. Much-cited problems such as a shortage of skilled workers and supply bottlenecks are merely the symptoms – the healing pains, so to speak – of an industry in transition that too many decision-makers are still unwilling to acknowledge. Our partners in the global CREE network, on the other hand, welcome this change and are setting a good (= built) example.
Anything else?
Cooperation and the sharing of knowledge between human individuals are the key to progress: no one knows more than all of them together!
